Sub-Implementation of Free Bus Travel for Students under Mukhyamantri Bus Seva
Madam
I would like to inform that Government have been pleased to approve the proposal of the School & Mass Education Department regarding Free Bus Travel for Students under Mukhyamantri Bus Seva (MBS) scheme. In this regard the extract of the decision taken in al High Level Meeting held on 21 August 2025 under the chairpersonship of Hon’ble Chief Minster is enclosed for kind referenice. Under this initiative, all school students will be eligible for free bus travel upon production of a valid Student ID card or by wearing school uniform.
Accordingly, Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) is requested to revisit the existing bus routes and timings so as to include the maximum number of schools in the operational routes. The District Education Officers have been instructed separately to provide required information for re-mapping of bus routes. In order to compensate the revenue loss likely to be incurred due to implementation of this scheme, it has been decided that the required budgetary provision will be made by the Commerce & Transport Department.
You are, therefore, requested to kindly take necessary steps for implementation of the
initiative and to make suitable budgetary provision at the earliest. This Department may kindly be kept informed of further action taken in this matter.
